One of the biggest advantages of remote working to employees is being able to balance work and life better, as they can save more than an hour a day commuting.
According to a new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), commuters around the world save themselves 72 minutes every day they work from home.
In China, this was as high as 102 minutes, while Brits saved 73 minutes on their commute.
While this extra time could be spent ferrying their children about, socialising with their friends or catching up on housework, most people claim they give a lot of their “saved time” back to their employers.
The report stated: “These results suggest that much of the time savings flow back to employers, and that children and other caregiving recipients also benefit.”
It found 40 per cent of the extra time is spent on doing more work, with this increasing to 53 per cent in Taiwan.
On average, 34 per cent of the time saved went to leisure pursuits, and 11 per cent was given to doing more caregiving activities.
In addition to saving time, 80 per cent of the workforce prefer flexible working conditions as they believe it is better for their mental health, according to a study by FlexJobs together with Mental Health America.
As remote working remains as beneficial to employers as it does to employees, it is important to have a good communication structure in place. Remote IT services in Colchester, for instance, ensures everyone in the team stays connected, wherever they are working.
